A brief history of JEM Carpentry Inc–
I registered a trade name, purchased an insurance policy and opened a bank account doing business as On The Level Construction Services in October of 2015. For the first year I worked as a helper/apprentice for a custom carpentry business, I then spent 2 years working as an independent contractor for primarily one company, installing interior trim & hardware in new construction homes. For a good part of those 2 years my brother Tristin who now runs the company with me, worked for me as a helper.
In 2018 I went out on my own and began working for multiple different contractors as well as directly with homeowners; at this point, in about June of 2018, I began doing business as JEM Carpentry. In January of 2019 I changed my insurance policy, registered trade name with the state of Colorado and bank account, to JEM Carpentry. It was around this same time that I began to focus on working directly with homeowners and builders, as opposed to mostly subcontracted work from other contractors with an occasional job of my own sprinkled in. I began to document everything at this point and started building an online presence for JEM Carpentry with a website and social media profiles.
I was contracted by a local builder to trim my first custom home in May of 2020; in August of 2020 I leased a small shop space and began to build small custom cabinet and millwork projects. My Brother Tristin re-joined me in September of 2020 after spending a couple of years working for another local interior trim company. We worked hard and stayed humble and the work kept coming.
In July of 2021 we incorporated as JEM Carpentry Inc. and Tristin Kincaid became a full partner in the business. We spent the next few years getting as much experience as we could- focusing on the work. We worked out of multiple small – rented workshops, building our skillsets as well as our network. We hired our first full time carpenter in the summer of 2023 and grew quickly over the following year. In the spring of 2024 we signed a lease for our first real brick and mortar location where we are able to manufacture and display/sell our products and services. We re-branded the company, keeping JEM Carpentry Inc as the parent corporation and DBA as JEM Custom Cabinet & Millwork Co.
We will continue to grow and evolve into the business we know we can be; we are so excited for the future
